Noises dispose of an aesthetic quality being taken up and evaluated far stronger than pictures by the unconscious. In a world where the immense flood of images has made individuals nearly deaf against acoustic stimuli, field recordings offer an unbelievable source of inspiration and imagination. The sound recordings sharpen and sensitise the hearing, reveal apparently well-known, pique curiosity on the unknown and the interest in quite concrete sceneries, in our environment with its tonal variety. As never congruent copies of an independently existing reality they play with the individual adaptation and cognition ability.

The field recordings taped between 2008 and 2009 at places like the Pyrenees, the Atlantic Sea or the Black Forest serve to Ephraim Wegner as basis for compositions of sound sceneries.

Typical tones of certain regions, but also omnipresent everyday noises are processed and edited, put on top of each other, distorted up to unrecognisability and assembled again. Thus musical sound fields / collages and new acoustic rooms are generated which invite to reflexion and abstracting or just listening: The apparently weird, but strangely melodic bell ringing of the flock of sheep in the Pyrenees reveals its musical structure which testifies to astonishing harmony. Heavy rains, thunder storm rumbling, wild buzzing of insects and shrill chirping of crickets mutate to tonal arrangements which remind of minimal music or classical noise every now and then. Everyday occurrences become unusual hearing experiences, the pasture land idyll rumbling wild noise.

Am Freitag gibt’s dank dem guten DJ Gimmix nicht nur satt was auf die Ohren, sondern mit freundlicher Unterstützung von AnotherRepublic durch die Herren m0n0mind und wechselplatte von projektionsareal.org auch Arbeit für die Äuglein. Zu sehen gibt es Bilderfluten aus dem Projekt “rewire.to.remix”.

Kleine Neuerung für alle, die an den beiden desaströsen Halbzijt-Parties teilgenommen hatten. Wir haben die Party diesmal aus terminlichen Gründen auf den Abend vor die Eröffnung der Stijl gelegt! Notiert Euch also den Termin und kommt rum:

Nach dem großen Erfolg der Stijl Winter2010 im Februar 2010 mit über 2.500 Besuchern und rund 25 Ausstellern kommt jetzt die dritte Ausgabe der Stijl Mainz: Die Stijl Sommer2010 ist die größte Verkaufsmesse und das Festival für Fashion, Sport und Design im Rhein-Main-Gebiet und damit ein Wochenende lang Heimat für junge Designer, Händler und Nachwuchsproduzenten! Die Messe findet am 19. und 20. Juni 2010 in der Alten Waggonfabrik in Mainz-Mombach statt. Auf einer Fläche von 2.000 Quadratmetern findet Ihr Streetfashion und Designprodukte, Limitiertes und Selbstgemachtes und vor allem eins: Ä.K.S.C.H.N.!

Die Stijl in Mainz ist keine konventionelle Rein-Raus-Messe und kein Flohmarkt. Eher eine neuartige, designorientierte Plattform, bei der Ihr bleiben, zu ausgesuchten Beats auf gemütlichen Sofas chillen und Euch den ein oder anderen Kauf in Ruhe durch den Kopf gehen lassen könnt. Auf ausgedienten Fernsehern laufen Clips aus Musik und Sport, Streetartists zeigen eine Auswahl ihres Schaffens und auf dem hauseigenen Streetareal läuft ein kleiner Game-of-Skate Contest. Klar, dass es auch etwas zwischen die Rippen gibt: in der Vergangenheit zum Beispiel lecker Käseraclette und frischen Almdudler!

PUBLIC Provocation 2010

After the successful first edition in 2009 in PUBLIC Provocation This year, one more showcase than urban and diverse. Vom 10. bis 12. Juni präsentiert Berlins erster Videokunst- Club VisualBerlin sein gleichnamiges VJ-Festival.

VisualBerlin spiegelt den multikulturellen Reichtum der Stadt wider. Mit Mitgliedern aus neun Ländern ist der Verein eine bunt gemischte Familie von Künstlern, die eine gemeinsame Leidenschaft teilen: projizierte Bewegtbilder und deren Präsentation im öffentlichen Raum und eine per- manente Weiterentwicklung dieser Kunstform. Ende 2005 gegründet, hat sich das Kollektiv mittlerweile zu einer inter- national anerkannten Institution in Berlin entfaltet. Seine Mitglieder beschäftigen sich mit verschiedensten Facetten der VJ-Kunst: von Underground-Party-Visuals, Hardware- Hacking, programmierter Kunst bis hin zu experimentellen Performances und Medienphilosophie. Die Gruppe umfasst lokale VJs, etablierte sowie international bekannte Künstler und Darsteller, die jede Woche unzählige Clubs und Lein- wände rund um Berlin zum Leuchten bringen.

Seit 2003 haben Mitglieder von VisualBerlin verschiedene internationale Festivals organisiert und betreut – mit dem Ziel, Begegnungen und Austausch zwischen Künstlern zu ermöglichen und ein Netzwerk von Dialog und gegensei- tiger Unterstützung und Inspiration in der weltweit ver- streuten VJ-Szene zu fördern. Im Frühjahr 2010 präsentiert VisualBerlin stolz sein drittes Festival – dieses Mal in einer der faszinierendsten industriellen Locations der Stadt: dem legendären Tresor-Komplex.

Die Festival-Saison startet an diesem Wochenende in die erste Runde und wir machen uns auf den Weg, um nichts zu verpassen.  Das Immergut 2010 lädt ein, auch hier ein lustiges Potpourri an Digitalcollagen der Besucher zu saugen. Wie immer gespannt und voller Vorfreude ist der Kopierapparat sicher geparkt und wartet auf die nächtlichen Begebenheiten. Wir freuen uns ganz besonders, dass der geliebte Apparillo wieder in die Spur geschickt wird und verkünden hiermit: “Die Mama ist nun häufiger in Berlin anzutreffen.” Also, die CopyMachine einmal zu benutzen, sollte auf jeder “Was muss ich im Leben noch machen”-Liste  stehen, denn wenn wir es schaffen, sie tatsächlich ins Weltall zu schießen, könnt Ihr beim “First Contact” pädagogische Pionierarbeit leisten.

RAFAEL TORAL SPACE PROGRAM WORKSHOP: Rethinking Electronic Music

Electronic Music development has historically been mostly oriented to the sound source (technology) and the object (finished work). Unlike in jazz, the individual is rarely the focal point. More concerned with the musician than with the instrument, the Space Program is Rafael Toral’s long-term research into human performance possibilities in Electronic Music, a fundamental reevaluation of its conception, performance and experience.

The Space Program Workshop shares some concepts, focusing on how we make performance decisions. Aimed at musicians using hacked, bent, or custom electronic instruments, it raises fundamental questions about what can we do with them. The Workshop provides participants with conceptual tools for structuring musical discourse, with emphasis on phrasing from Space Program’s viewpoint.
